We
were asked to supply stone work to help restore this private Victorian house in
London. The
bulk of the work comprised of a large cornice running around the top of the
building. We also supplied the balustrade above the bay windows, the single
window head, chimney cappings, quoin stones and the copings on the front garden
wall.

Vincent Square, London.
In 2006 we were involved in providing
a variety of stonework for this large project.
Our pre-cast stonework was to be integrated alongside natural Portland stone.
The beauty of this job was that it
allowed many different aspects of our work to be showcased. We supplied everything from balustrades,
paving and smaller items such as corbel brackets through to large balconies,
columns and substantial gables.
High Street Kensington, London.
For this project we were required to produce an end extension
comprising of 5 stories from corner to arched gable for this block of buildings
in Kensington. The original extension
was visually out of place and was duly demolished allowing us to be contracted
to match the original stones exactly and also remodel some of the old architecture
to use for junctions and corners. The
timescale for this project was short, allowing us only 12 weeks to complete
construction of stone.Through out this project standard
industry testing was carried out daily to ensure the required crush cube
testing results met the required 35 newtons, where as our samples tested easily
covered this with an impressive 80 newtons.
Savoy Hotel, London.
In December 2007 the Savoy hotel closed its
doors for the world’s most expensive renovation. We were asked to supply 11 new brown
terracotta windows including two dormers and to “soot wash” them so as to blend
them into the original structure. Soot
wash is a weak black cement dye and water mix intended to ‘age’ the stones
instantly. After completing the windows to form part of a new extension we were
then employed to replace one of the new white terracotta windows to the side of
the penthouse. In addition to these
works we also constructed new nosings and some complete balcony slabs to
replace the ones that had rotted and failed.
Finally we replaced an entire length of string course mouldings that
runs along Carting lane and meanders around 3 consecutive radiuses. As with many others it has been a real
pleasure to work on a project as prestigious as the Savoy and we are currently working on the
Corinthia hotel (formerly the Metropole) on the corner of White hall place and Northhumberland Avenue,
where we are currently supplying balustrade and soon, stone for the penthouse.
